Koelreuteria paniculata (Pride of India)
Koelreuteria paniculata, also known as pride of India or the goldenrain tree, actually originated in China. It was introduced to the U.S. in the 18th century, where it can be something of a nuisance. In UK conditions it is much better behaved and looks lovely, growing to around 10m. Its attractive yellow flowers attract bees, and its pink lantern like (let's not say "bladdery") seed pods are highly decorative. Fabulous autumn colour too. Fully hardy, requires full sun, but does well in urban conditions. We sell Koelreuteria as bare root plants, so they are available from November to end March.
