Apple Tree - Ribston Pippin

The original Ribston Pippin apple tree was believed to be raised from a pip brought to Ribston Hall from Rouen by Sir Henry Goodricke. It died in 1835 - although remarkably an offshoot of the original tree survived until 1928. A possible parent of Cox's Orange Pippin, the Ribston Pippin was hugely popular among Victorians, who exported it all over the world; the Garden Chronicle of 1844 notes: "This delicious apple needs no encomium. It is as highly appreciated as it is generally known". Ribston Pippin is a good cropper and has scab resistance.

See our section on Pollination Groups to help you select your apple trees.
The rootstock for all our apple trees is the most vigorous available. We try to offer as many apple varieties as we can on M25 rootstock, which will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart. M106 is suitable for most gardens. Please refer to our size guide for details.

All our Ribston Pippin apple trees are bare root, so they are only available between November and April. During lifting season, there will be a delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders taken from June-October will be confirmed in late October/ early November after a nursery stock take, for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.

Your purchase helps us support a range of charities, which are related to the products we sell.
