Apple Tree - Worcester Pearmain

Worcester Pearmain's crimson, medium sized and beautifully fragrant apples are best picked and eaten fresh from the trees. Worcester Pearmain apples can be eaten as early as August in the South of England. Tip bearer, producing huge crops especially when Charles Ross is used as its pollinator. This beautiful apple is susceptible to scab but resistant to frost. Worcester Pearmain originated in the market garden of Mr Hale at Swanpool, near Worcester in the 1870's and is probably a seedling from Devonshire Quarrenden. It has in turn proved an excellent parent to some outstanding modern varieties, including Lord Lambourne, Elton Beauty, and Discovery. "Pearmain" as a description of an apple might have originally referred to its pear shape or the apple's keeping quality (from Old French parmaindre "to endure").

The rootstock for all our apple trees is the most vigorous available. We try to offer as many apple varieties as we can on M25 rootstock, which will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart. MM106, or M106, produces a good sized garden tree. Please refer to our size guide for details.

All our Worcester Pearmains are bare root, so they are only available between November and April. During lifting season, there will be a delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders taken from June-October will be confirmed in late October/ early November after a nursery stock take, for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.

Your purchase helps us support a range of charities, which are related to the products we sell.
