Hamamelis (Witch Hazel)
Witch Hazel provides an excellent source of pollen for honey bees in the very early spring. Witch hazel flowers come in a dazzling array of of fragrant frost resistant colours. Hamemelis look wonderfully exotic as specimen trees, flowering on bare wood, and have a sweet scent. They are happy in sun or semi-shade, and prefer neutral to acid soils. The Witch Hazel came from America; early settlers used its branches for water divining as they had done Hazel branches in Britain. All the varieties we sell have the RHS AGM and are supplied as below, from November to March. Grow - slowly - to around 4m.
